House Votes To Cut NPR's Federal Funds

NPR has always been committed to giving a voice to communities underrepresented in the mainstream: ethnic minorites, non-Christians, LGBT, the poor, etc.... so by it's very nature is MUST be liberal. Conservatives aren't interested in giving those constituencies a voice. In fact they have a vested interest in keeping them silent and marginalized. There's no way for NPR to achieve this mythical "balance" because in order to do so it would have to abandon its mission and become just another mouthpiece for white, straight, Christian men. And really, don't they have more than enough?

"The bill's treatment of NPR is arguably unconstitutional and definitely violates the Rule of Law. The bill is arguably unconstitutional because it likely is a bill of attainder. Art. I, Sec. 9, of the Constitution prohibits Congress from passing bills of attainder. The idea behind the bill of attainder ban is that Congress shouldn't enact laws meant to punish particular persons or entities, because the proper way to punish a wrongdoer is after the accused has been given a chance to defend himself at trial in a court. After the federal government similarly singled out ACORN, a federal court ruled the defunding was an unconstitutional bill of attainder. A federal appellate court reversed, but on grounds specific to the facts of the case.

NPR is THE best radio station out there for a variety of laughs, science, music, human interest and smart or wise discussions. When I say wise, I mean when intellectuals and good politicians are interviewed. Often I am disappointed when some guests are obviously "sucking up" to the GOP crazyness.

This time in history feel like a bad dream for the US, Japan and most of the world. There is no unity, no sane direction for the country, the newspapers or the radio stations. Wild and worrysome things such as some Fox stations *but not all* some are good stations such as those in the Wash DC area are very good.

How and when will the country get back on track and pull together? After some major crisis again? We we had two or three and that has done nothing to right the wrong or pull us together.

We need solutions, not fighting and turmoil.
