(KMOV) -- Have you heard oil prices have dropped? So why, you may ask, have gas prices in the St. Louis area spiked in the past 24 hours?
The frustrating thing is, there really is no specific answer.
Oil prices have dipped below $100 a barrel since the disaster in Japan, but continuing tension in the Middle East, including Egypt and Libya continue to put fear into the market and have kept speculators, well, speculating.
As of Wednesday morning, the price for regular unleaded gas is around $3.49 in Missouri and $3.69 in Illinois.

Pay attention to the futures markets and know how your local station market works and you'll be able to gas up on the low end of prices. that doesn't mean you'll avoid high prices, but it will save you some money at the pump.
